Natick is a town located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. There was a population of 32,786 at the 2010 census and is only located 10 miles west of Boston. Natick was actually considered the center of population for Massachusetts up until 2000, making it quite the popular place.
The name Natick comes from the language of the Massachusetts Native American tribe and is commonly considered to mean “place of hills” as Natick was first settled in 1651. Surprisingly, Natick was known for its shoemaking abilitiesand was one of the nation's most popular cities for exporting dress and work shoes.
Fun fact about Natick: The eighth to twelfth miles of the Boston marathon are through Natick, on route 135, and yearly hundreds of people come and line the streets to support the racers.
What to Do in Natick
Natick is not only a historical city, but one that is filled with exciting things to do. Downtown Natick, better known as the “Natick Center” is filled with shops, diners, and life.
Palletes is a great place to do fun activities done like painting and sculpting. Game-Underground is an awesome getaway for the gamers who like to spend time together reaching new high scores. Barleycorn is a great place for adults to create their own craft brew in a very reputable and fun environment.
If you're looking to go out and about and enjoy the great outdoors, there's things like the Broadmoor wildlife sanctuary to take great walks in. There's also the Lookout Farm, where kids and adults can hold events and meet farm animals.
Finally, if you feel like getting on the water, you can always visit Charles Canoe & Kayak to get yourself on the beautiful Charles River on a hot summer day!
