The Psychological Impact of DivorceOn October 8, 2014 Norfolk, MA divorce mediator and lawyer Stephen McDonough from Next Phase Legal LLC attended a seminar hosted by the MA Council on Family Mediation.  The seminar, Exploring the Psychological Impact of Divorce, included information about:

  • How our central nervous system reacts to stress
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Symptoms & Referring Clients to Mental Health Professionals
  • Differences between men and women in coping and responding to mental health issues

Towards the end of the program, there was time for questions with the two presenters, Oona Metz, a licensed social worker and group psychotherapist with offices in Arlington and Brookline; and Doug Baker, a therapist in Cambridge, MA.  Doug specializes in using mind/body techniques such as yoga and mediation in therapy.   Both Oona and Doug offer divorce support groups, with Doug running men’s groups and Oona running a women’s divorce support group.
